EARLY BOTERELS AND NORMAN KINGS

This tree shows the complicated relationships of the Boterels and the Norman kings. It starts with Rollo the Viking, whose raids on Normandy induced the king of France to make him Duke of Normandy on condition he and his men settled down. From Rollo descended William the Conqueror and Geoffrey Boterel, who were second cousins. By the time these two were born, their families had become more distinctively Norman and Breton respectively.
